This bright, colorful floral has amazing depth. It is painted with charcoal powder and watercolor paints that have been built up over the charcoal, layer by layer. The multiple layers of petals and the deep, varied reds, red greens and deep darks underneath are the means to the unusual depth in one blossom. It is one of my favorite paintings. People tend to think of poinsettias as Christmas flowers. I don’t. They grow and bloom year round in the warmer climates. I think it would be a stunning addition to any room that has red accents. It is more realistic than most of my paintings, but when one looks closely, they can see the textures and subtle blending of colors one doesn’t see in a photograph. As with my other flowers painted so close up, I call it a living still life.
Most of my watercolors are painted on Arches 300#watercolor paper, one of the best on the market. It is heavy, strong and durable. This particular painting is on cold press, which means it has a medium texture
A beautiful, gun metal colored frame that absorbs the colors of the painting and blends perfectly with it is available. To find out more about the frame, you may inquire.
