A rich watercolor of sailboats at dockside painted in deep reds, purples, blues, yellows and mixtures of them. I love mixing my paints and coming up with my own special colors. The deep sunset colors are ones seen just before the sun goes beneath the horizon and the sea is peaceful. This seascape I call interpretive realism, or
others might call it an impressionistic painting. The sunset glows around the clouds and the sailboats reflect in the quiet waters. I love mixing colors and coming up with my own special hues. The softness of subtle blends of cloud edges gives a peaceful feeling that reflects
the peace and quietness one feels when the sun is setting in glorious colors. There is no wind, the sailboats are secure for the night and sailors are gone.
Tofino is a coastal town on the Pacific Ocean on Vancouver Island, B. C. Canada. It is not a great distance from where I live on the north end of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.
The painting is on a half sheet of Arches 300# cold press watercolor paper, one of the best on the market. It has a medium texture which adds to the clouds formations.
