The Clematis climbing the old wood fence were in my yard. I often paint flowers that grow in my garden. I call these “living still lifes.” Interpretive realism in style, one knows what they are without being photographic; I want people to know there is some of myself in my paintings. The sunlit lavender clematis contrasts with the glow of golden yellow behind them and the neutral grays/gray browns of the wooden fence. They are surrounded by blue and blue green/gray green toned leaves. This painting is in a double mat, which becomes part of it as the leaves hang over onto the mat. As are most of my watercolors, it is painted on Arches 300# paper, one of the best on the market. It is heavy, strong and durable.
This particular painting is on cold press, which means it has a medium texture.
