The glory of spring is represented in the Purple Iris. A few drops of spring rain linger on the petals. Painted with transparent watercolor, it is my interpretive realism style which is similar to, but not impressionistic. It is very real without being photographic The oversize flowers are shades of purple and lavender, with yellow/yellow orange background showing some buds that have yet to unfold. It is a living still life garden painting.
This painting is done with a technique I have been using for a few years that has culminated in these unusual florals.
It is painted with watercolor and charcoal powder.
Most of my watercolors are painted on Arches 300#watercolor paper, one of the best on the market. It is heavy, strong and durable. This particular painting is on cold press, which means it has a medium texture.
